In the show, which returns for its 29th season on Oct. 1, Sheeran will be involved in a love triangle with Lisa Simpson and Nelson Muntz.
"This year continues to be equally surreal and amazing," the British singer said. "Watch out for this one, me and Lisa have a whole thing going on x."
The show's executive producer Al Jean told Entertainment Weeklythe musician is a Simpsons fan who even has a tattoo of Blinky, the three-eyed fish, so naturally he was interested in appearing in the comedy.
"We had a perfect part for him,” Jean explained. “So we said, ‘Oh, great, we’ll have him do this!’ And we recorded him over the phone from England."
Meanwhile, Sheeran has deleted his Twitter account after getting dragged for what many saw as a silly, unnecessary cameo in the fantasy thriller Sunday night.
