With production underway for BridgertonSeason 2,Spain Netflix and Shondaland announced its renewal for Seasons 3 and 4. It might be a while before all the Bridgerton siblings from Julia Quinn's novels get married, but Netflix is sticking around to show us how it all goes down.
"Bridgertonswept us off our feet," Netflix's VP of Global TV Bela Bejaria said in a press release. "The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgertonbusiness for a long time to come.”
The news comes shortly after Netflix revealed that Regé-Jean Page will not be reprising his role as Simon in Season 2. Page said he always expected a one-season arc, since each novel focuses on a different Bridgerton sibling and Daphne's story (Phoebe Dynevor) has mostly been told — though her character is still part of the show.
"This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix," Shonda Rhimes said in the press release. "Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgertonto a worldwide audience.”
Bridgerton is executive produced by Rhimes and Betsy Beers, and creator Chris Van Dusen. There are nine books, so we're crossing our fingers for more season renewals in the future.
Bridgertonis now streaming on Netflix.
