A video game based on Mika Muroi ArchivesMarvel's Avengers super-team is finallyhappening. More than one, in fact.
Details are very slim, so bear with us. Marvel's Twitter feed announced "The Avengers Project" with a cinematic trailer. The video's YouTube description confirms that this is a "multi-year, multi-game partnership" with publisher Square Enix.
SEE ALSO: 2016's 'Hitman' was great because it didn't let players bingeIt sounds like the first game from this partnership -- and presumably the one teased in the trailer -- is in the hands of Square Enix developer Crystal Dynamics. If that name is familiar, it's because this is the studio behind the modern face of the Tomb Raiderseries.
Also participating is Deus Ex: Mankind Divideddeveloper Eidos Montreal. The Canada-based studio also worked with Crystal Dynamics on its past two Lara Croft games, Tomb Raider(2013) andRise of the Tomb Raider(2015).

There's no word on which Avengers lineup the initial game will focus on, just that it will feature an original story. That said, there are allusions in the teaser to the Marvel Cinematic Universe specifically, so expect those films to form the narrative backbone of whatever Square's studios are working on.
The teaser is somewhat reminiscent of the disaster nightmare -- which featured a defeated Avengers team -- that Scarlet Witch gave to Iron Man in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron. The tweet includes the hashtag #reassemble... suggesting that, at some point, the Avengers will disassemble.
Unfortunately, it sounds like we're not going to be hearing much more about this for quite some time. The teaser's YouTube description notes that more details will be available -- on Crystal Dynamics' project "and other games" -- in 2018.
But wait! 2018 is notably the year that Avengers: Infinity Waris pegged for release. If the first Avengers Project game picks up somewhere between Infinity Warand the movie that follows it -- originally titled Infinity War: Part Two-- we can at least speculate, based on the hashtag, that some dark times are ahead for our favorite Marvel super heroes on film.
