Netflix's runaway hit 13 Reasons Whywill return for Season 2,Lady Moon but since it already covered everything in Jay Asher's novel, how will the story continue?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, show runner Brian Yorkey discussed what fans can expect in Season 2, which will pick up months after Season 1's ending.
SEE ALSO: '13 Reasons Why' Season 2: What we want to see"We really have characters who, after 13 episodes, are just beginning the process of recovery and the process of coming to terms with what part they might’ve played in Hannah’s death and how Hannah’s death will change their lives going forward," Yorkey told EW. "I think that there is so much that’s fascinating about the way we grieve, the way we recover, the way we learn to take better care of each other."
Yorkey confirmed that Hannah will appear in Season 2 flashbacks and that future episodes will include voiceovers -- but this time, they won't be hers. Will each of the 13 episodes be narrated by someone on the tapes?
"I want to do Jessica’s story the deserved justice of following her as she goes back to school, as she tries to begin to recover from what happened to her, because it’s something that millions of young women go through," Yorkey said. "And also [I want to] see somebody punch Bryce in the face."
Cassettes are out, but Yorkey teases "there will be a new piece of technology for 13-year-olds to Google and try to understand what it was." (Please, pleasebe a Zune.)
Yorkey reiterated that the show is about loss and trauma, but that despite the characters' pain they have opportunities to overcome.
"I think what we’re going to discover is, as they begin to emerge from this very dark time, there’s hope and there is some light to be found," he said. "That’s my hope anyway, and I think that that’s also truthful. I think false hope is a danger, but I think that there is always some light, even in really dark times."
13 Reasons Whyis now streaming on Netflix. Season 2 is due in 2018.
