A Democratic congresswoman has just released a massive report detailing the social media posts of her Republican colleagues who tried to overturn the U.S. presidential election results.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren, eroticism and the grotesque who represents California, postedthe nearly 2,000 page Social Media Review report on her government website on Friday. The report is broken down by state and includes archived social media posts from “Members of the U.S. House of Representatives who were sworn-in to office in January 2021 and who voted to overturn the 2020 presidential election.”
According to Rep. Lofgren, following the events of Jan. 6, when thousands of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, she instructed her staff to put together a review of public social media posts from members of Congress who voted to overturn the election results. The report also includes social media posts that correlate with the actions of that day, as well as any postings that claimed the 2020 presidential election results were illegitimate.
In addition, the report contains posts from these same members of Congress who attempted to spread misinformation or make “false equivalencies” between the violence in January and the Black Lives Matter protests this summer.
The review is broken down by state. While some of these reporters are only a few pages, others, such as the ones detailing the posts made by representatives from Texas and Arizona, are hundreds of pages long.
Each state's report is broken down by representative. The bulk of Georgia's 128-page report is taken up by posts from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a freshman member who has a history of spreading conspiracy theories like QAnon. The review is filled with posts from Rep. Greene that promote “Stop the Steal” and other falsehoods about the 2020 election results. Mashable has previously reportedon the slew of warning labels Rep. Greene received on Twitter due to her posts spreading misinformation about the election results.
Republican Congressman Paul Gosar's posts take up a whopping 177 pages of Arizona’s 257-page report. The report notes how Rep. Gosar had multiple interactionswith “@Ali” on Twitter, the since-suspended username for Ali Alexander, one of the main organizers of “Stop the Steal” as well as the rally at the Capitol on January 6.
Rep. Lofgren’s comprehensive social media review comes out as news comes to light of possible investigation into members of Congress communicating with organizers of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. According to a report by The Intercept, the FBI has collected “thousands of phone and electronic records” of people who were at the Capitol that day, including data belonging to members of Congress and their staff.
