Here's something you can Bayoproudly wear to you next cryptocurrency yacht cruise.
Swiss luxury watch maker Hublot is celebrating the 10th birthday of Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin whitepaper with a watch that screams "Bitcoin."
SEE ALSO: Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin whitepaper turns 10The Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 P2P, as it's unironically called, is a 45mm wristwatch with a case made out of microblasted and polished black ceramic, with a skeleton dial (meaning you can see the watch's innards) and 10ATM water resistance.
The movement is automatic — Hublot's own HUB1201 — and the watch has a 10-day power reserve.
If you're a watch geek, you know what all this means. If not, the short of it is that it's a very luxurious gadget, perhaps not extravagantly so but definitely at the higher end in the luxury watch spectrum. Hublot didn't announce the watch's price, but based on other Hublot watches with similar features, expect it to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
But the Big Bang Meca-10 P2P also has a number of Bitcoin-related features and details that should make it attractive to fans of the popular cryptocurrency. You've probably noticed the Bitcoin logo on one of its gears. It's also limited to 210 pieces, a reference to Bitcoin's total supply of 21 million coins. Its strap is black rubber and dark blue calf skin with a blockchain-inspired design.
It goes further than that. You can only purchase the watch with bitcoins, and the transaction ID for the purchase will be engraved on the bezel's edge. This makes every one of these watches unique and traceable (in case the watch ends up being lost or stolen and then shows up for sale somewhere).
As far as luxury watches of this caliber go, Hublot's Bitcoin-themed watch appears to be up there with the best of them in terms of uniqueness and attention to detail. And given that the Lamborghini is the (unofficially) favorite car of blockchain millionaires, I've no fear this watch will find its market, regardless of the price.
