A Lannister always pays his debts. So we can Prison Tres Speciale Pour Femmesprobably trust Jaime Lannister actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau when he promises that the much-anticipated final Season 8 of Game of Throneswill pay off.
During an interview at the Cannes Festival in France, the HBO star gave a few hints at what we can expect, and it addressed some fears fans have had since other actors like Ian Glen said the ending, "cannot please everyone."
SEE ALSO: What the 'Game of Thrones' leaks tell us about Season 8Of course nothing can please everyone, and Glen was referring to the fervor of the fandom and how no ending could satisfy them all. But speaking from an insider's point of view, Coster-Waldau said:
"I also know that we end the right way and the show ends on its own terms. And when I read the scripts for the last season, I was like, ‘Wow, they really pulled it off.’ It’s one story from Season 1 to 9 [sic] and it makes sense."
While he's glad the show ends on a high note, he admits it's bittersweet to be done with this chapter of his life. "I'm going to miss the people and I'm going to miss Belfast -- that's been amazing, just to watch how that city has changed in nine years."
Over the past few months, we've heard many actors weighing in on the finale of theGame of Thronesphenomenon. While promoting Solo: A Star Wars Storyin a recent Vanity Fair interview, Emilia Clarke gave even more tantalizing hints.
Clarke said that filming her character's end, "Fucked me up... Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone's mouth of what Daenerys is."
There is endless speculation to be had on exactly why Clarke would be so conflicted about Daenerys' final moments, which fit into Coster-Waldau's assertion that it feels like a complete story. For years, fans have speculated that Daenerys would turn evil, deteriorating into the cruelty displayed by her father, the Mad King (and many other Targaryens before her).
Other more tinfoil-y fan theories even speculate that Daenerys will complete the Song of Fire and Icebook arc by sacrificing herself to the White Walkers, effectively turning from fire into ice (get it?) That certainly would make Season 1 through 8 feel like a complete story, since Jon Snow made his own parallel journey from ice (as a Stark) into fire (as a recently revealed Targaryen).
But we'll have to wait until 2019 to know for sure. Until winter comes, though, we'll make do with these few morsels of inside information.
