Roll call!
Avengers: Endgameis almost here, eroticizing oriental in literature and with it comes the resolution to a story arc that started with Iron Manmore than a decade ago. There have been 21 movies in total leading up to this point and a whole lot of characters to follow from each of them.
SEE ALSO: 'Avengers: Endgame' directors beg fans: #DontSpoilTheEndgameSince virtually every single one will be showing up at some point or another in Endgame, we thought it might be helpful to step back for a moment and take stock. Where is everyone? What are they up to? What's their level of readiness as the final showdown with Thanos approaches?
Read on to find out....
As we all know by now, a group of familiar faces was standing right there when Thanos snapped his fingers and, in a split-second, turned half the universe into dust. Bruce Banner, Captain America/Steve Rogers, War Machine, Okoye, Rocket, Black Widow, and Thor all had the honor of watch close friends and allies melt away into nothing before their very eyes.
But there are other Earth dwellers that made it as well. Hawkeye spent all of Avengers: Infinity Waron house arrest. But as we've seen now in multiple trailers: he's alive and he has a new hairdo. He's probably super-pissed at Thanos for taking away all his friends, too.
We also know that Wong, Happy Hogan, and Pepper Potts all survived the Snappening. How? Marketing, baby.
When Marvel studios released a pile of 32 character posters at the end of March, they showed up with different color schemes. As it turned out, the full-color posters -- a set that included Wong, Happy, and Pepper -- indicated which characters are still alive, while the black and white posters paid tribute to the dead.
For starters, we know Thanos is alive and well. He snapped his snap and then scurried off to some nameless farm planet, because even big, bad villains dream of a quieter, simpler life in the country. Thanos probably won't be alive by the time Endgameis finished, but for now he's still breathing.
Iron Man/Tony Stark is alive, too. So is Nebula. The last time we saw them both (outside a trailer), they were on Titan. All of their other allies had just melted away into dust, so it was kind of a stressful moment. There's some suggestion in Endgametrailers that Tony and Nebula may be separated at some point before one or both head to Earth, but for all we know right now they're still together.
Captain Marvel is a question mark. She's for sure alive. She's somewhere in space. Nick Fury summoned her to Earth with his janky-but-secretly-high tech beeper at the end of Infinity War. She'll probably arrive on Earth soon after Endgamebegins. But for now, she's off... somewhere.
Valkyrie is alive too, but just like Captain Marvel she's MIA. The last time we saw her was at the end of Thor: Ragnarokwhen she, Thor, Loki, and the surviving people of Asgard escaped their dying... planet? Is Asgard a planet? Whatever, they escaped aboard a spaceship. The same one Thanos boarded and destroyed at the beginning of Infinity War. But we know she got away; Valkyrie has a full-color poster.
Ant-Man/Scott Lang is still kicking too. Sort of? I mean, yes. He's technically still breathing. He's also smaller than a molecule and trapped in the Quantum Realm, a dimension where time and space don't actually matter. So, you know. Scott could be doing better. Sorry dude.
Let's start with the big list, the people we know turned to dust after the Snappening. I don't care if it happened on Earth or in space; if you turned to dust and we know about it, you're on this list.
Here we go, deep breath:
Black Panther, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Drax, Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Winter Soldier, Wasp, Hank Pym, Janet van Dyne, Wanda Maximoff, The Vision, Shuri (thanks, posters), Mantis, Groot, Falcon, and Doctor Strange.
I think that's everyone? Not, like, everyoneeveryone. The Snappening took out half the universe, that list of names is way too long. But this is everyone we know and care about who's now nothing more than... well... hit play on that YouTube video and let Kansas do the talking for me.
There's also a couple of Actually Dead characters who didn't survive long enough to see the Snappening. Thanos choked the life out of Loki right there in the opening minutes of Infinity War. Later, he threw his adopted daughter Gamora off a cliff in order to get himself the Soul Stone.
Lastly, there are those whose fate is just unknown at this point: Korg and M'Baku spring to mind immediately, just because they're awesome and we're very worried that they're not OK. I mean, yes, whatever happens in Endgame, we can be sure that the worst of the Snappening will be reversed. But for now, there's every reason to believe that these two fan faves are super dead.
