Jason Momoa is back as the titular superhero in the sea-set sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. As the final film in the DCEU, it marks the end of an era. Considering the original Aquamanfrom 2018 was the most successful DCEU movie by a long shot, ending its global run with over $1 billion, the sequel has a lot to live up to.
Now, fans who missed it in theaters can see if it hits the mark. Here's how to watch Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomat home.
You know the saying, "if at first you don't succeed..." Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is still seeking to avenge his father's death and hopes to take Aquaman (Momoa) down for good. This time around he has the power of the Black Trident on his side, which holds an ancient evil. In order to stand up to him, Aquaman is forced to turn to an unlikely ally: His estranged half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson). Will they be able to set aside their differences to save their kingdom, family, and the world? Or will Black Manta come out on top, wiping out Atlantis and everything else in his revenge quest?
Peep the official trailer below.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomswam in at Christmastime in an effort to turn around a rocky year for the DCEU (have you seen The Flash?). The outcome was a mixed bag, with underwhelming reviews from critics, yet love from diehard fans. On Rotten Tomatoes, Aquaman 2currently sits at a 34 percent critics rating, yet an 81 percent audience rating. Mashable's own reviewer didn't have too many good things to say about it, calling it "a nothing movie for no one." However, fans were more forgiving, with one rating saying it "improved not only the first installment's flaws, but nurtured them into an all-new action-packed showcase" and another simply stating that it's "a fun film if you don't put too much into it."
While it's still in select theaters nationwide, Momoa's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomjust got an official streaming date. Aquaman 2will be available to stream on Max starting Feb. 27, 2024. It's also available to purchase on video-on-demand services like Prime Video and Apple TV+ (more on that below).
If you want to stream Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomat home, you're going to need a Max subscription. The question is which Max subscription deal is the best for you? We've broken down the options below.
While a monthly Max subscription with ads will run you $9.99 per month, you can save about 17% if you opt for the annual subscription instead. An annual plan goes for $99.99 per year, which breaks down to just $8.33 per month. This definitely gives you more for your money, but signing up for Max for just one month and cancelling is also an option if you don't want to fork over $100 all at once.
For those who prefer an ad-free viewing experience, you'll want to sign up for one of the higher tiers — Max Ad-Free or Max Ultimate. The Max Ad-Free annual subscription is the best bang for your buck at $149.99, which saves you 22% compared to paying $15.99 monthly. However, if you're looking for the best viewing session possible, Max Ultimate offers 4K Ultra HD video quality, Dolby Atmos immersive audio, the ability to stream on two more devices at once, and 70 more downloads, on top of the ad-free experience. It bumps up the cost to $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year (save 17%).
Cricket customers on the $60 per month unlimited plan get the ad-supported version of Max included for free as long as their account is in good standing. Just choose Cricket as your provider when you log in to Max and enter your credentials. Voila. You're able to watch Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and plenty of other films for free. On a different Cricket plan? You can upgrade or change over to the $60 per month unlimited plan to secure the deal. Check out the terms and conditions for more information.
There used to be a few different ways to test out Max before pulling the trigger, but all of the free trials have magically disappeared. Only one remains, and it's not exactly free. When you sign up for a DirecTV Stream Entertainment package for $79.99 per month, you can get three free months of Max (as well as other premium channels). Since DirecTV Stream serves as a cord-cutting service, it's not exactly the most affordable option for watching Aquaman 2, but it does offer a ton of long-term value with more than 75 live channels and three months of Max, Paramount+, Showtime, Starz, MGM+, and Cinemax.
If you don't want to sign up for another streaming service to watch Aquaman 2, or if you would rather have the ability to watch it whenever you'd like, you can purchase the film through digital retailers like Prime Video and Apple TV+ for $19.99. A rental version will also become available at a later date — and for a cheaper cost. Until then, here are the links to purchase the film on digital.
