The video isn't the first such experience to show the utter devastation in Aleppo. Earlier in 2016, Amnesty International Australia used footage shot in 2015 to put together a "virtual reality" experience of the damage in the city, the first time a war zone was seen in this format.
Diana Sayed, Amnesty International Australia's crisis response campaign coordinator, told Mashable Australiaat the time, "Seeing first-hand these places that were once so similar to our own streets, and are now completely destroyed, is shocking, disorienting and uncomfortable. Of course, when you take the headset off, you're still living in one of the safest, most livable countries in the world. Syrian people can't just take off a headset."
A few high-profile incidents involving children and the terrible toll the strife has taken on them have made headlines, including the story of Bana Alabed, a seven-year-old girl who has been tweeting about her life in a war zone, and Omran Daqneesh, a five-year-old boy whose picture (above) after a bombing, which showed him covered in blood and dust, has become one of the most lasting, heartbreaking images of the fighting.
