Amazon Studios continues to clean house in the wake of Roy Price's exit.
Monday saw the resignation of Joe Lewis,Covet: Island of Desire Amazon's head of scripted programming, with Sharon Tal Yguado tapped to replace him, according to multiple reports. Yguado previously served as head of Amazon's event series, a division separate from Lewis' comedy and drama offerings.
On Tuesday, Mashableconfirmed that Conrad Riggs, head of the streaming network's unscripted division, has also left the company. Riggs was responsible for bringing Jeremy Clarkson and his Top Gear cohorts James May and Richard Hammond over to Amazon for The Grand Tour, but the motoring show has failed to replicate the success of their previous project.
No official explanation has been given for either exec's exit. According to Deadline, Lewis is "in negotiations for a producing deal" with Amazon, while Riggs will "likely get some sort of parachute from the Jeff Bezos-run online retail giant but nothing like the producer’s deal that Lewis received."
Lewis and Riggs' departures follow Price's suspension and subsequent resignation following allegations that the president of Amazon Studios sexually harassed Man in the High Castleproducer Isa Hackett. Amazon Studios' COO Albert Cheng is serving as interim president.
Last week, Amazon lost its head of international productions, Morgan Wandell, to Apple Video, which is also making a concerted push into original content. Wandell's exit came after "a months-long negotiation," per The Hollywood Reporter, and does not appear to be connected to Price's ouster.
Questions about Price's conduct resurfaced following the deluge of sexual assault allegations leveled against producer Harvey Weinstein. According to Deadline, it was Price's friendship with Weinstein that reportedly brought two big budget Weinstein Company TV shows to the streaming service: a drama from David O. Russell that has since been scrapped, and Matthew Weiner'sThe Romanoffs, which will now "move forward without the involvement of The Weinstein Company," per Variety.
A recent Wall Street Journal feature on Amazon suggested that Price and Lewis may have been involved in reported conflicts of interest that contributed to "low employee morale" at the company:
On “The Tick,” Mr. Lewis pressured people working on the show to cast his girlfriend, actress Yara Martinez, in the pilot and then to expand her role, said people close to the program.
Mr. Price last year encouraged subordinates to buy an idea for a series called “12 Parties” from his fiancée, Lila Feinberg, said Amazon Studios employees. Some at the company said they were uncomfortable because of the apparent conflict of interest and because they believed a character in the series resembled Mr. Price.
Martinez previously had roles on two other Amazon series overseen by Lewis, Alpha Houseand I Love Dick.
No word yet on who will replace Riggs as Amazon's head of unscripted.
